Fox Division News - Fall, 2002

FOX NEWS

FALL 2002

NORFOLK:  Although our numbers were small, we had another great timeCadden, Hufford, Page, Ray, Richards, and Schneider plus newcomer Loren Rainboth ( Fox 1955-58) and wife Zahna.  The Rainboth's came all the way from Gold Beach, Oregon for their first reunion.  Son Matthew joined us for the Sunday Banquet.  Originally scheduled only to deliver a greeting from President Bush,  he was called upon to serve when the guest speaker Lt. Duane Thurin was unable to attend due to severe illness.

Upon returning home we had a message from Ralph Spears that while packing for the trip Gerry fell and received a sprained foot including broken bones , halting their trip of course.  And just prior to our leaving for the East Coast Don Spencer notified me he had to postpone due to colon surgery.  Tough luck, Gerry and Don.  We'll see you at the next Fox gathering. (Update on Spencer-a few cancer cells were found so there will be further surgery on November 17 to insure it's all removed. Don is definitely upbeat.  Our prayers are with you Don ).

Norfolk was an interesting location, with much to see and do.  Good turnout with about 318 for the Sunday banquet.

FOX 2003 Russ and Stella Daniels will be moving to South Dakota yet this year, and offered to host the Fox in the Rapid City/Badlands/Mt. Rushmore area.  Despite my efforts to take up the Daniels' offer the gang was determined that 2003 will be in BRANSON.  So be it.  The power of the spouse prevails!

So here's the deal:  Sheri has booked 10 rooms at the Branson, Missouri  Settle Inn Resort & Conference Center, for
September 22-24 (Monday-Wednesday).  Arrive Monday, depart Thursday the 25th.  Rate is $70.07 with tax.  That rate will apply for the day(s) immediately before/after our dates if rooms are available. We'll be signing a contract shortly for the room block and hospitality room.  After that you can call in your reservation.  Should be ok to call by November 20. The Settle Inn offers many amenities including breakfast and a morning show. We will be arranging for a group dinner, one group show or excursion, and whatever else we can come up with.  Otherwise, free time.  And we'll have literature available for those interested.  Suggestions and recommendations about what to see and do in Branson are encouraged!

If you're sure you'll attend, or maybe, or even just thinking about it it's important you make a reservation
EARLY ( 1-800-677-6906, contact is Judy).   There is no cost for that phone call, and no cost if you decide to cancel later.  We can always decrease our room block number , but it's difficult to increase if we need more.  And we do need to know registration numbers well in advance in order to be able to arrange group activities.  Certainly by March 1 at the latest, and preferably earlier.  As we've done before, after March 1 info mailings will go only to those showing interest, or possible interest, in joining us. You can do that by making your reservation directly with the Settle Inn, or contacting me, or Sheri at 816-331-0292.

SICK BAY UPDATEJim Hix reports he's doing just fine despite loss of about 30% of heart pumping function.  Been doing some traveling and trying not to slow down too much, except he knows when he needs to do so.  Helen Hontz provided an update that's she's about to start cardiac rehab now that her hip is good.  Lots of naps and reading.  She says it's exciting going from one rehab to another.  Yeah, I bet!  Best of everything to both of you, and others we may not know about.

DUES:  We're currently ok financially but your dues do give us an indication of your interest in keeping up with news of your friends and shipmates. If you're not interested we'll appreciate knowing that also so you don't get unwanted mail, and we can save the publishing and mailing expense.

2002 paid-ups  are :  Casbeer;  Chandler; Daniels; Enoc; Ferguson; Hickey; Page; Ray; Richards; Schneider; Spencer; Waclaw; West.  Thanks fellows.  Please send your 2003 dues to Carl Ray:  5100 60th St, Lot S4, Bradenton, FL.  34203.
