James E. Patton...
"Retired U.S. Navy Commander, James E. Patton passed away February 24,
2005 following a brief illness. The beloved husband of Shirley O.
Patton for 26 years. Jim was born in Dallas and at the age of 17 he
enlisted in the Navy during WWII. He was selected to attend the
United States Naval Academy from where he graduated in 1949.
Following his commission, he served aboard the Heavy Cruiser USS
ROCHESTER (CA 124) as a Gunnery Officer and later commanded his own
ships during the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. He also was an
instructor at the Naval Academy. After retiring from the Navy, Jim
worked for Paine Webber from where he retired in 1989 as V.P. of
accounts.
He will
be sadly missed by family and friends alike. James Patton was on of
the faceless heroes who led his men in combat yet never spoke
about.....heroes never do. His country depended on him and he stepped
up to the plate, did his duty and never asked why...he gave his all to
this country....to his family and especially to his wife Shirley and
his stepdaughter Paula and stepson Mark and four grandchildren.
At his
request no services are planned but donations may be made in Jim's
name to Hospice of Palm Beach County.
